How to use a Personal Daq/3000 Series module, with an encoder, in DASYLab 2016.


This article is a guide to configuring a Personal Daq/3000 Series module with an encoder and DASYLab 2016 Service Pack 1 v14.0.1, on a Windows 7, 64-bit system.  (It can also be applied to a Windows 10, 64-bit system.)  
(Note: reference KB article #50718 for compatibility issues with DASYLab 2016.)

1. If not already installed, download and install DASYLab 2016 Service Pack 1 v14.0.1 (DASYLab_2016.0.1.exe), using the following link:

2. After completing the DASYLab installation, launch the DASYLab 2016 Configurator.  On the Registration tab, enter your company name, your name and the alphanumeric serial number.  On the Packages tab, select the IOtech package, under the Data Acquisition branch; see image below.



3. Click the Enable button followed by the OK button to exit the Configurator.  At that point, an IOtech driver installation will execute.  Follow the prompts to complete the installation.  The Configurator will close and the system should be restarted.  DASYLab is now configured with the IOtech driver support.

4. Connect the recommended power supply to the Personal Daq/3000 Series module, followed by a USB cable connection to your target system's USB port.

5. Open Windows' Device Manager to find the module listed under 'DaqX PnP Devices' as a 'PersonalDaq3001'.  Double click on the device entry to verify the device status as ‘this device is working properly’.

6. Via a Windows' File Explorer, launch DASYLab 2016 by right clicking on the executable and then selecting the 'Run as Administrator' option; see image below.



7. Once in DASYLab 2016, go to the top menu and select Measurement >> Hardware Setup >> Driver.


8. Click the 'Add' button and select the Personal Daq/3000 Series device.



9.  Select the available Personal Daq/3000 Series device and then click the 'Select' button.



10. In the Hardware Configuration list, select the 'Counter Inputs' folder and click on the 'Properties' button.



11. Select the 'One Encoder Channel, Two Counter Channels' option and click 'OK'.



12. Expand the 'Counter Inputs' folder, select 'Encoder0', and then click the 'Help' button for additional support information.







13. In the Hardware Configuration window, select 'Encoder0' and then click the 'Properties' button.



14. Click on the available tabs to view and update the settings.







15. Click the 'OK' button(s) to return back to DASYLab's main screen.  Expand the INPUTS/OUTPUTS folder, on the MODULES tab, and then expand the DRIVER folder.  Select the ANALOG INPUT module and drag it onto the worksheet.



16.  In the Hardware Selection window, select the 'Direct (Enhanced Counter Channels)' option and click 'OK'.  An 'EnhCount: AI' icon will be added to the worksheet.



17. Double click the icon to configure the input.  Channel 0 is the 'encoder' channel, while channels 1 and 2 are the counter channels.



18. Click the 'Channel Setup' button to review the Counter Properties and then click the 'OK' button.



19. Drag-n-drop a Digital Meter display onto the worksheet and wire both module's terminal together.



20. Click the Time Bases toolbar icon.  Select 'Driver' as the Time base and confirm the sampling rate.



21.  Save the worksheet.  If an encoder signal is already wired to the Personal Daq/3000 Series device, then run the worksheet.
