Configuring DAQami for voltage and temperature measurements with a USB-TC-AI

If using a USB-TC-AI module for the first time on the target Windows system, then begin by installing the latest MCC DAQ Software (www.mccdaq.com/Software-Downloads).  During the installation, select the options for InstaCal, Universal Library, and DAQami.  Connect the USB-TC-AI module to the target system after the installation has completed.  Reference the USB-TC-AI User’s Guide for connecting signals to the voltage vs. temperature terminals (User Guides are located at www.mccdaq.com/manuals/).

Launch MCC’s InstaCal utility.  Once the USB-TC-AI module is visible in the Board List, double-click on the board to access the Board Configuration window.  Configure the Temperature and Voltage Channels to be used; see image below.

Afterwards, exit InstaCal and then launch DAQami.  In DAQami’s Getting Started window, select ‘New Configuration’ icon followed by the ‘Automatic’ option.  In DAQami, the first four analog input channels (AI0 – AI3) should appear as Active Channels, on the left side, and a Strip chart on the right side.  In the upper left-hand corner, click on the third icon button to view the Configuration Panel.  Next, click on the Channels tab.  The top four analog input channels (AI0 – AI3) are the voltage input channels, while channels AI4 – AI7 are the temperature channels.  When a temperature channel is selected, its Channel Settings shows the available options for TC Type and temperature units.  Select the desired channels and configure each channel’s settings.

In the upper left-hand corner, click on the third icon button to switch to the Display Panel.  If there is no display on the right-hand side, then click on the second icon button, in the upper left-hand corner, to select a Display option.  Click on the Scalar option and drag it over to the Display area.  Repeat steps twice for Strip displays (one for voltage and a second for temperature measurements).  Next, drag and drop the Active Channels from the left side onto the Scalar and Strip displays.  For the Strip display with temperature channels, click on the cogwheel icon in the upper right-hand corner of the display (not the ‘Gear Menu’ icon in the application’s top right-hand corner).  In the Display Settings window, click on the Axes tab.  Change the ‘Y-axis Name’ to reflect temperature units.  Click OK to close the window.  Repeat the change to update the axes units of the other Strip display.

In the top center of DAQami, click the green arrow to start an acquisition.
