Configuring DaqView for an IOtech Ethernet device

The following will hopefully serve as a guide to configure a computer to work with a DaqBook/2000 series device using DaqView and Windows 7. The procedure also applies to the DaqLab/2000 & DaqScan/2000.

Note, Windows 10 is not compatible with DaqView

The IOtech Ethernet devices do not have an Auto Negotiation (or Auto Link) feature. This is a feature whereby the computer's network card and the external device setup to compatible IP addresses - typically beginning with 169.x.x.x. Because of this, the first step is to put your network card at a compatible address. The IOtech default factory addresses begin with 10.12.x.x. The final two fields are determined by the serial number. The network card must be set to a compatible address that is different from that of the device. The IOtech user manual suggests using 10.0.0.1 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0.

Install DaqView. This adds an entry to the Start >> All Apps Start menu which is called DaqX Software. Under which you will find shortcuts to the following programs: DaqView, DaqIPConfig and DaqXCPL. DaqIPConfig broadcasts a UDP message to IOtech Ethernet devices to identify themselves. DaqXCPL will allow you test the communications

At this time turn on your Ethernet device and wait 30 seconds for it to boot and become available. Start the DaqIPConfig program. It will tell you the device's IP address and serial number. It is recommended that the device be set to Obtain IP Address Automatically if possible.

Make note of the IP address and serial number and close the dialog

Next, add your device to the DaqXCPL configuration using the Add Device button and enter the serial number as shown below. The IP Address box will show you the default IP address.

Click over to the Test Hardware page and run the Resource Test. If it fails, most likely you have firewall blocking communication. In this case either drop the firewall or unblock ports 50000 - 50020.

Next, start DaqView using the Run as Administrator option. This is done once as Windows will remember the setting. You can also do this with the file explorer, for instance browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\DaqX\Applications\ and set Run as Administrator property on the Daqvw32.exe file.

Now, make sure DaqView is set to read your device. If it's set to the simulated device open the Device menu and choose Select Device.

If you have additional DBK expansion items they are added using the Configure Hardware Setting option on the Device menu.

The Daq2000 product line has up to 16 channels for expansion so each channel has a DBK selection box. You must make sure the DBK item is physically set to the correct channel. The hardware must match the software for it to work correctly.
